Prevention Fact Sheet (Large)

Prevention Fact Sheet (Small)

To discourage the formation of undesirable coyote behaviors do not leave sources of food such as uncovered trash, bird seed on the ground under birdfeeders, or leaving pets outdoors and unattended. If you repeatedly see a coyote take effort to discourage the animal from seeking food or lingering in your yard.

Coyote Sightings and Conflict

If you see a coyote in your yard repeatedly, please be sure to remove potential food sources to eliminate any food attractants that may encourage the coyote to return. Potential food sources are uncovered trash cans and bird seed on the ground under bird feeders or other edibles. Be sure to keep cats indoors and safe and to be watchful when letting dogs outside, especially after dark.

Contact your regional office of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation if you are concerned about interactions with coyotes and would like to speak to wildlife staff.
